Founded in 1981 by Bernard K. Teachout, a former Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy, B.K. Teachout Investigations served the greater Flint area, providing uniformed security officers and private investigators.
In 1995, Bernard Teachout retired and sold the company to Joseph R. Cozart. Cozart started with the company in 1985 as a security officer, working his way up through the business into the position of President. Since that time the company has expanded into four major markets, highlighted by the opening of the branch offices in Saginaw in 1999, Lansing in 2001 and Troy in 2004. In April 2008, the Troy office expanded and moved to Southfield.
In December 2008, Teachout Security Solutions acquired Recon Management Group, LLC, located in Bingham Farms. Recon provides uniformed security services throughout Metro-Detroit, as well as security consulting and investigations.
Teachout Security Solution’s international expansion was a response to adversity. With Michigan’s recession worsening it became obvious to Teachout that continued growth would take a plan involving ingenuity and controlled risk. The first step of their expansion plan was the development of a well-vetted network of strategic partners, which allowed for a “no geographic boundary” approach to offering services. Today, Teachout has over 500 security partners providing uniformed security officers at facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
The resulting benefit to their international and national clients is a single source security solution; a “one call does it all” approach to their security needs. With this formula for success firmly in place, Teachout Security Solutions is focused to expand quality protection into their current service areas as well as new markets within the region.
